Officers were called to Post Road near Burgess Road at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28. Upon arrival at the scene, police said that the units called found a 1998 Nissan parked in the middle of the driveway at the high school, facing the wrong direction. Prior to stopping at the high school, officers said that the Nissan was spotted driving erratically on Post Road, in the middle of the two southbound lanes.

According to police, when they spoke to the driver, Bronx resident Niels Lauriteen, who “had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath. His eyes were glassy and his speech was extremely slurred.” Lauriteen said that he was coming from White Plains, where he had consumed “a few glasses of wine.” While speaking with the officers, Lauriteen “had a very difficult time keeping his head upright and his posture was very slouched.”

Lauriteen failed several Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, and nearly fell over during a “walk-and-turn” and then a “one leg stand” test. A breathalyzer found that Lauriteen had a blood alcohol content of .196 percent, and he was arrested at the scene.

Once at police headquarters, Lauriteen received a second test that found his blood alcohol content to be .21 percent - nearly triple the legal limit. Lauriteen was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated DWI with a blood alcohol content greater than .18 percent and cited for failure to maintain his designated lane. Following his arraignment, Lauriteen was released on $30 bail and is scheduled to appear in Scarsdale Village Court later this month.
